I: Lessons Learned after 58 Years in the Profession
Dentistry has changed remarkably, in ways good and bad, since I graduated from dental school.
This presentation will attempt to share what I believe I have learned from 58 years in private practice, specialty practice, academia, organized dentistry, and life. This will include discussions on what works, what sort of works, and what doesn’t. It will also review factors that contribute to both professional and personal success. A roadmap for enjoying an ethical, fulfilling, and productive career in the dental profession will be outlined.
Learning objectives:
1. Participants will learn about the relative effectiveness of various restorative materials and techniques commonly used in restorative dentistry.
2. Participants will learn the importance of “paying attention to detail” regardless of what material is used.
3. Participants will learn the importance of having a mentor(s) and the benefits of being a mentor.
II: Management of Root Caries
The incidence of root caries is increasing as more patients are retaining teeth into old age, and more and more patients have an increasing life expectancy. The etiology of root caries is multi-factorial and complex and all etiologies must be addressed. One of the major causes is reduced salivary flow rates due to polypharmacy or autoimmune disease. It must be understood that some root caries lesions cannot be restored, and there is a choice of materials for those lesions that are restorable. The ability of sodium diamine fluoride (SDF) to both prevent and arrest root caries will be discussed and a protocol for effective utilization of SDF will be presented.
Learning objectives:
1. Participants will learn that a side effect of a majority of commonly prescribed medications contribute to reduced salivary flow rates and that patients with reduced salivary flow rates are at high risk for root caries.
2. Participants will understand that fluoride releasing materials are of minimal benefit per se, but, importantly, can be recharged with fluoride which can be re-released at levels that are effective in preventing re-occurrence of root caries.
3. Participants will learn that SDF is highly effective in preventing and arresting root caries lesions.

Title: Micro to Macro: The Small Things Matter
Description: Clinicians must provide a global approach in order to rehabilitate a patients’ function, form, and esthetics without overlooking the intricate, micro details through each phase of treatment. This presentation will underscore the importance of prosthetic driven planning and fundamental treatment concepts in order to achieve clinical success in a macro way.
Talking points:
1) Single Anterior Implant Principles
a) Planning, evaluating, restoring
2) Full Arch Implant Concepts and Planning
a) Prosthetic volume vs. interocclusal space, esthetic risks, case selection
3) Insights into Amelogenesis Imperfecta (AI)
a) Microstructure of enamel
b) Different types of AI and diagnosing
c) How your diagnoses may change your pre-prosthetic, orthodontic, and final planning
Presenter: Dr. Eugenia Prokopets, DDS, MSD, Periodontist
Title: Advanced Techniques in Microsurgery: Optimizing Soft Tissue and Implant Outcomes
Talking points:
1) What is Microsurgery?
2) How is Microsurgery different than traditional periodontal surgery?
3) Microsurgery to enhance esthetic outcomes of soft tissue grafting
4) Microsurgery to enhance outcomes of implants in the esthetic zone
5) What are the key steps to achieving a natural and healthy anterior implant?
